Today’s Legislative Activity

Assembly Jobs, Economy & Small Business Executive Session
The Assembly Committee on Jobs, Economy & Small Business approved the Wisconsin C.O.R.E. Jobs Act (SB 409) after recommending the adoption of Assembly Amendment 6.  C.O.R.E. stands for "Connecting Opportunity, Research and Entrepreneurism." As noted earlier, this bill contains several higher education initiatives supported by the UW System. The legislation must now be approved by the full Assembly.

Senate Session
The Senate took action on the following legislation of interest to the UW System:
  • SB 279 - Bioenergy Initiatives. Passed, 25-8.
  • SB 407 - Academic Excellence Higher Education Scholarships. Passed, 24-9.
  • SB 497 - Food Animal Veterinarian Loan Assistance Program. Passed, 27-6.
  • SB 514 - UW-Milwaukee Building Projects. Passed by voice vote.
  • SB 523 - Unfair Labor Practices in Collective Bargaining. Passed, 18-15.
