01/21 Senate Action

On Thursday, the Wisconsin Senate passed SB 409, the C.O.R.E Jobs Act, by a 32-1 vote.  This bill, which contains several higher education initiatives supported by the UW System, will now be sent to the Assembly for consideration.  For more information please see coverage by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The Senate also approved AB 2, which would require contractual services purchased by state agencies to be performed within the United States.  This bill included favorable exceptions for the UW System, specifically exempting contracts purchased with federal funds or UW System gifts, grants, or endowments.  The bill was previously approved by the Assembly and will now be sent to Governor Doyle.  For more information see coverage by the Wisconsin State Journal.
