Federal Update for January 19, 2011

The House Rules Committee is scheduled to take up a resolution today impacting the remainder of the FY2011 discretionary spending levels. According to a description, the measure, if adopted, would allow House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) to propose FY2011 funding limits via “a transition to non-security spending at fiscal year 2008 levels.” Chairman Ryan’s proposal is then expected to come to the House floor next Tuesday (January 25), the same day President Obama is scheduled to give his State of the Union address.

A coalition of five ocean and coastal research organizations is sponsoring a Congressional reception on ocean research on February 10 from 6 – 8:30 PM in 2168 Rayburn (Gold Room). The second annual ARPA-E Innovation Summit is scheduled for February 28 – March 3. The goal of the event is to unite the various sectors of the energy community to share ideas about the next generation of clean energy technologies.
