State Legislative Update

Wrap up of Last Week's Legislative Activities

Joint Legislative Committee Reviews Student Voter ID Issues
The Joint Committee for the Review of Administrative Rules (JCRAR) met on November 15 to review the Government Accountability Board's (GAB)
decisions on how to implement the state's new voter ID law related to student IDs. The issues discussed were the use of stickers on UW student IDs, and allowing for the use of Wisconsin Technical College IDs as an acceptable form of voter ID.  The committee voted to require GAB to pursue the state's formal rule-making process (instead of their own board policies) to implement those particular provisions related to college ID's. See Wisconsin Eye coverage of the hearing. (total time: 3 hr. 51 min.)

Assembly Insurance Panel Considers AB 318 & AB 352 Relating to Rehired Annuitants

The Assembly Insurance Committee heard testimony on both bills at a November 17 public hearing. See Wisconsin Eye coverage of testimony presented by a UW System panel (total time: 49 min.) as well as coverage of the entire public hearing (total time: 5 hr. 22 min).

Upcoming UW Regent Confirmation Hearings

The Senate Agriculture, Forestry, and Higher Education Committee has scheduled a December 8 public hearing on the appointments of Tim Higgins, Gary Roberts, and Gerald Whitburn to the UW Board of Regents. A committee vote on those appointments is scheduled to follow the conclusion of the public hearing.  See the public hearing notice here.
